The apiary awakens

2 h Hasta 8 Mar – Oct

A morning of beekeeping with our beekeeper: we open a working hive and you learn to read it. Then a walk through the olive grove and a tasting of our olive oil and honeys.

This is a beekeeping experience, told exactly as it is.

We give you the full kit — suit, veil and gloves — and walk down to the apiary. We open a working hive with the beekeeper: you will see the queen, the brood, the pollen and the capped honey frames. We explain how to read a hive, how to tell whether it is healthy, and how we decide if there is a surplus to harvest. It is done slowly, with calm bees.

Then we walk back up through the olive grove and finish at the villa with a tasting of our harvest olive oil and our raw honeys, with a glass of LITHA.

It lasts about two hours, in groups of up to eight. Come in comfortable clothes and closed shoes; we provide the equipment. Not suitable for anyone allergic to bee stings. Children are welcome with an adult.

We practise non-migratory beekeeping: the hives never leave this land and we only take the surplus.

This stop includes

  • Beekeeping workshop at a living hive
  • Walk through the olive grove
